Step Right Up and READ!

Accelerated Reader Guidelines
2019-2020
Accelerated Reader is a reading management program that is used to promote reading and help teachers reach all types of readers in their classrooms. A Balanced Literacy program includes self-selected reading which can be achieved through Accelerated Reader. Students are assigned point goals based on their reading abilities which help them earn rewards. Student point goals will change each 9 weeks as they progress. Below is an explanation of rewards that will be offered through the media center this year and the expectations of each student in order to earn these rewards.
Expectations for Accelerated Reader
Nine Week Parties: Students must meet their point goals while maintaining an 80% average (85% for 4th and 5th grades) for the 9 weeks in order to attend the party. We will have four AR 9 week parties, one at the end of each 9 week grading period. Student goals and averages will start over each 9 weeks for these reward parties.
Yearly AR Aquatic Center Field Trip: Students must meet their point goals for at least 3 out of the 4 nine weeks in order to attend this party. Each student must have an average of an 85% or more for each individual 9 week period, as well as having an 85% yearly average.
Readers are Leaders: One student from each grade level will be chosen for Readers are Leaders based on the number of points earned for each month of the school year. Students must maintain an 85% average to be chosen for this recognition. Students will be recognized on the Morning News Show and will receive a free book.
