FCA club (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) is at WES for 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students!! Today, we had our very 1st ever morning huddle in the gym. Jessica Armstrong did a lesson & activity on, “Let us run with endurance the race set before us” -Hebrews 12:1 and related this to “staying in the game” even when life gets tough. What a wonderful way to start the school day!
We will meet again on Friday, October 31, at 8:00 am in the gym. Students who would like to join us just need to turn in their signed permission form to their homeroom teacher. If you have any questions, please see Coach Hill.

It's Pawtober! Get ready for some October fun! Throughout the entire month, students can snap a pic of themselves reading to their pet or their favorite stuffed buddy. This will be a great way to showcase what our pets are reading! Plus, every student who submits a photo will snag a nifty little prize. Those adorable snapshots will be featured in the Media Center all month long!

Nurse Kelly visited Kindergarten to talk to the students about the importance of handwashing and how it stops the spread of germs. Using the book, Sick Simon, about a little boy named Simon who went to school while he was sick, the nurse let the students play with her toys that had "germs" (baby powder) on them, and they passed the toys around, unknowingly sharing the germs. She walked around and "sneezed" behind the kids (sprayed water on them while she made the sneeze noise). She used a black light flashlight to show them the "germs" they shared with each other when they were passing her toys around, too. She gave them handwashing tips (sing the ABC song while you wash your hands or count to 30), had 2 students wash their hands, and show how clean their hands were after following the tips. This was the cutest, funniest, and most effective activity to teach students about handwashing, spreading germs, and staying home when they're sick.

It's time to purchase a yearbook! Books are on sale for $25. Price goes up in December, so don't miss out. Order online or see Mrs. Peeples in the Media Center to purchase.

Congratulations to our Treasure Chest Winners! Book Blast contributions help ensure all our students receive books. After your student earns all 10 books from the book list, additional contributions help provide more books for all our students, classrooms, and the library. Plus there’s still a chance to be entered into the Disney trip giveaway! #booksarefun #literacy #bookblastadventures #readingrules
