Dear Families, we are excited to announce our school's "Reading Mountain Challenge"! This year, our school community is embarking on an epic adventure to conquer a towering goal: reading one million words. Each grade level will have a different goal with the overall goal of reaching one million words as a fifth grader. Just like climbing a great mountain requires dedication, perseverance, and putting one foot in front of the other, reaching this word count peak will take consistent effort from every single student. We invite you to be your child's climbing partner: help them select engaging books, set aside dedicated reading time at home, and celebrate each "base camp" milestone we reach along the way. Together we can reach the summit of our grade level goal and install a lifelong love for the journey of reading!

Grade Level goals:
1st Grade - 35,000 words
2nd Grade - 150,000 words
3rd Grade - 500,000 words
4th Grade - 800,000 words
5th Grade - 1,000,000 words

Mrs. Dimsdale's 5th grade math classes ended Unit 3 with a hands on project of building fall houses with candy. Students solved multi-step problems with multiplication and division to determine how much of each item groups would get to construct their houses. Students solved the problems by creating numerical expressions with multi-digit multiplication and division and solved them together to find the totals. Check out their great work!

K-Kids is on the move with two opportunities for you to participate in serving our community. They will be collecting donations of canned goods next week to help feed families in need for Thanksgiving. Beginning on Wednesday of next week, you can also show your team spirit by purchasing a colored band or bracelet from our K-Kids team. Proceeds will be used to purchase turkeys for the Thanksgiving meals. Thank you so much for supporting our community!

FCA club (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) is at WES for 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students!! Today, we had our very 1st ever morning huddle in the gym. Jessica Armstrong did a lesson & activity on, “Let us run with endurance the race set before us” -Hebrews 12:1 and related this to “staying in the game” even when life gets tough. What a wonderful way to start the school day!
We will meet again on Friday, October 31, at 8:00 am in the gym. Students who would like to join us just need to turn in their signed permission form to their homeroom teacher. If you have any questions, please see Coach Hill.
